The 'Go No Go' research to setup a vocational training space for skill development for under educated girls was educational and informative. The highlight of the program understanding how there are a lot of schemes and centers that supported by the government for various skill development programs. (https://www.msde.gov.in/en/schemes-initiatives.)

The following is a summary of some of the programs and schemes available:

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) - https://www.pmkvyofficial.org/

  • The PMKVY Scheme helps impart skill development training through Short-Term Training (STT), Up-skilling and Re-skilling for youth across the country —including rural areas. The scheme covers a wide range of skills such as tailoring, cosmetology, carpentry, computer software and hardware etc. In addition, it will also cover new-age courses for coding, AI, robotics, mechatronics, IOT, 3D printing, drones, and soft skills.

  • The cost-free, scheme offers industry-related skills training to unemployed youth and school/college dropouts to make them fit for employment.

  • The scheme offers valid certification and a Skill India card which can be used by candidates to apply for jobs and earn a livelihood.

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK)

  • The MSDE has established many "Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra” (PMKK) training centers, with one in every district of India.

  • It is an initiative that creates standardised infrastructure (https://nsdcindia.org/pmkk) for skill development training through the PMKVY.

National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS)

  • This scheme promotes apprenticeship training by increases the engagement of apprentices. This is achieved by providing financial support to industrial establishments that undertake apprenticeship programmes under the Apprentices Act, 1961. The training consists of either Basic Training or On-the-Job Training/ Practical Training at workplace.

Given that this information is already available, setting up a small scale vocational training center seems like reinventing the wheel. H&L feels it's more productive to guide and sponsor the girls to get into a useful vocational training and become economically independent.
